Screening for Plagiarism Policy
Procast: Journal of Communication, Multimedia, and Information Technology Development is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening as part of the journal's editorial process.
1. Plagiarism Screening
Every manuscript submitted to Procast may be checked using appropriate plagiarism-detection software before or during the peer-review process.
The screening is conducted to identify substantial similarities between the submitted manuscript and previously published or publicly available works.
Plagiarism screening may be conducted at the initial editorial stage and, when necessary, during the revision or pre-publication stage.
2. Similarity Assessment
A similarity score is used as an indicator to assist the editorial team in evaluating the originality of a manuscript. The similarity score is not considered the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred.
The editorial team may examine the context and source of identified similarities, including properly cited quotations, references, commonly used terminology, methodological descriptions, and other legitimate similarities.
Manuscripts with substantial and inappropriate similarities may be returned to the authors for clarification or revision, or may be rejected depending on the seriousness of the findings.
3. Types of Unacceptable Practices
Procast does not tolerate plagiarism or other forms of inappropriate text or content reuse, including:
Plagiarism of another author's ideas, words, data, images, or other intellectual contributions without appropriate attribution.
Direct copying of substantial portions of text without proper quotation and citation.
Paraphrasing another work without appropriate acknowledgment.
Duplicate or redundant publication of substantially similar material.
Inappropriate reuse of an author's previously published work without proper citation or disclosure.
Fabrication or manipulation of sources, references, data, figures, or other research materials.
4. Authors' Responsibility
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and properly acknowledge all sources used in the research and manuscript preparation.
Authors should appropriately cite all sources, obtain necessary permissions for copyrighted materials, and clearly distinguish their own contributions from the work of other researchers.
The use of artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools does not exempt authors from responsibility for originality and proper attribution.
5. Action in Cases of Suspected Plagiarism
If plagiarism or substantial inappropriate similarity is identified before publication, the editorial team may request an explanation or revision from the authors. Depending on the severity of the case, the manuscript may be rejected.
If plagiarism is discovered after publication, Procast may conduct an investigation and take appropriate editorial action, which may include issuing a correction, publishing an editorial notice, or retracting the article.
In serious cases of suspected academic misconduct, the journal may contact the authors' affiliated institution or other relevant authorities when appropriate.
